West Coast Swing Dance Lessons Parramatta

West Coast Swing evolved from a smooth style of Lindy Hop and adapted into its own dance form back in the 1950s and 1960s. Danced to a wide range of music genres, it is slower than Lindy and East Coast Swing, which are danced to up-tempo swing and big band music. It’s not as strenuous as the other ballroom dances, but it gives you the same fun and enjoyment that dancing offers. Do the West Coast Swing with us today and expect to have a wonderful time!

West Coast Swing is defined as a “slotted” dance—meaning that the stretch and flow of the dance and its linear shape. There are turning figures, but the lady never steps outside the slot. It is a dance that employs six and eight count figures. This means that West Coast Swing can be easily enjoyed in small spaces. Smooth, intricate, playful and interactive, it’s a challenging dance that is lots of fun once learned.

While West Coast Swing started in a Big Band era, that doesn’t mean you’re stuck swinging only to oldies. In West Coast Swing dance lessons, you’ll hear a wide variety of music from the last several decades, including current Top 40, R&B, Pop, Soul and Blues. You can dance West Coast Swing to everything from Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars and Usher to Al Green and Aretha Franklin and Stevie Ray Vaughan!
